About

Hello there. I am a musician and private instructor based in New York City. I teach guitar, piano, ukulele, bass, drums, vocals, songwriting, and music theory in many different styles and genres. I teach all ages and levels from the beginner who's never touched an instrument to the accomplished musician looking to expand their chops. I teach both in students' homes and virtually over Zoom.

I've been performing and playing music since I was but a wee lad growing up in Portland, OR. I picked up the guitar at 8 to play Beatles and Elvis songs and never put it down. Since I moved to New York in 2009 to study jazz guitar at NYU, I've toured four continents as a singer and guitarist, opening for bands such as Modest Mouse, Dr. Dog, Lake Street Dive, and They Might Be Giants. I've also played guitar on Broadway, toured with the Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, and performed at hundreds of theaters and clubs worldwide. I have a background in music theory, aural comprehension, improvisation, sight reading, and composition techniques that I can bring to students wanting to dive deeper into the foundations of musical forms.
