Philosophy

As a private instructor, I've helped students of all ages and levels achieve their goals by custom tailoring lessons to their specific interests while adhering to a firm belief that learning music is only worthwhile if you're having fun. I've had students who learn best completely by ear, others who prefer notation, and those who are more oriented towards real-time visual demonstration (and everything in between!). While cookie-cutter teaching methods such as lesson books may be effective at improving a very specific skill set, the materials are often so disconnected from real life music-making that they are ineffective at holding a student's interest in the long term. I've observed that rooting  each lesson in the student's musical fascinations and practical goals is a far more sustainable and satisfying strategy. Bring in what excites you and we'll have a blast learning it together.
